Information for students and PhD students

Would you like to use FDZ data for your seminar paper or final thesis?

Default: Campus Files (CFs)

Campus Files are anonymous data records designed for use in university teaching. They are particularly suitable for dealing with statistical or methodical questions.

If you wish to use Campus Files for your seminar paper or final thesis (e.g., Bachelor, Master), all you need to do is fill in the application form, enter your university e-mail address and the purpose for which the data will be used, and select the desired study or studies. We only check the institutional connection (using the e-mail address), the content of your project will not be reviewed.

After positive verification of your e-mail address, you will immediately receive an e-mail with a download link to the desired Campus Files. Please note that this link is only valid for a limited time. If you do not retrieve your Campus Files in time, you will have to apply for them again.

Suitable for larger projects: Scientific Use Files (SUFs)

If you wish to use Scientific Use Files rather than Campus Files for your seminar paper or thesis (e.g., Bachelor, Master), a somewhat more comprehensive application is required (see our guidelines for the SUF application procedure), which will be subjected to a content review at the FDZ at the IQB.

Students (including doctoral students without employment at a university) please enter their private address and the contact details (name, institution, official address and e-mail address) of the person supervising their project in the application form, even if this person does not need access to their own data. Please remember to obtain the consent of the persons concerned to pass on their data.

In the event of approval, you will be sent a data use agreement for the desired data. Please note that the supervisor of your work must also sign the agreement and allow sufficient time for the agreement to be processed. After conclusion of the agreement you will receive access to the requested data.

Processing duration for SUF applications (see also here)

When preparing your timetable for your seminar paper or final thesis, please note that it may take 6-8 weeks after receipt of the application before the data is transferred to you. In exceptional cases, e.g. if the contract documents are delayed in the post (e.g. from abroad), processing may take even longer.

Software requirements

By default the FDZ offers data records in SPSS or Stata format. Reading SPSS files into R is possible. If you require any other data format please contact us.
