German Network for Educational Research Data (VerbundFDB) – Building a research data infrastructure for educational studies in Germany – Part Project IQB

The German Network for Educational Research Data (VerbundFDB), a joint project of GESISDIPF and IQB, has been set up on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in order to strengthen the national infrastructure for educational research data. For this purpose, VerbundFDB has started to archive research data generated within the BMBF “Framework Programme for the Promotion of Empirical Educational Research” and to make these data sets available for further research. During its second funding period (2016-2021), VerbundFDB aims to extend the cooperative network beyond the initial partners in order to pool present offers and provide suitable specialized supervision of heterogeneous studies from the field of empirical educational research.

VerbundFDB provides information on and access to studies, tools, and data. It also offers consultation and training for researchers with respect to research data management.

VerbundFDB provides researchers in empirical educational research with:

  • access to high-quality data and instruments for their own empirical research
  • training and consultation services for research data management
  • information about data management (documentation, data protection, etc.)
  • an opportunity for the safe and sustainable storage of their own research data and research instruments
  • access to previous research findings and the opportunity for comparative studies

VerbundFDB will build on and continually develop the established technological, organizational and legal infrastructure in order to improve service for the general research community.

The Research Data Centre at the IQB, as one of the project partners forming the German Network for Educational Research Data (VerbundFDB), particularly aims to archive, document and make visible data and studies concerned with academic competencies and educational achievement.
