Open Science
As one of Germany’s leading institutes for educational research, the IQB is committed to the principles of open science. The aim is to make educational research transparent, collaborative, and accessible in the long term. This work is guided by the Berlin University Alliance’s (BUA) mission statement on open science.
Implementation of Open Science Principles at the IQB 🔗
Open Data
The Research Data Centre at the IQB archives and documents the data collected in the IQB Trends in Student Achievement. They are available free of charge to the academic community and can be used for reanalysis and secondary analysis.
Open Access & OER
Most of the IQB’s publications are openly accessible, including the reports on the IQB Trends in Student Achievement and research articles by our academic staff. Furthermore, the IQB provides a variety of materials free of charge on the website, including:
- Educational standards
- Test items
- Abitur exam tasks
Software developed by the IQB IT team is also publicly available free of charge.
Open Methods
Software development at the IQB is carried out under open-source licences. Both the software developed by the IT team and the source code are made available free of charge on GitHub.
Science Communication
The IQB uses modern forms of science communication to share information about its work and research findings. The IQB is present on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Bluesky, and Mastodon. Furthermore, we present our research at events such as:
- “The Long Night of the Sciences”
- WDR’s Maus Day (“Doors Open with the Mouse”)
