Research Areas

Research at the IQB focuses on three key areas: optimising IQB assessment instruments and analytical methods, data-based instructional development, and responding to diversity in learning needs. These key areas relate to the IQB’s core tasks and, wherever possible, also address issues of particular relevance for education policy in the federal states.

In addition to edited volumes on the IQB Trends in Student Achievement, they include numerous articles in national and international academic journals, contributions to edited volumes, and publications for practitioners.

The IQB’s Statistical Methods unit addresses questions related to the effective use of applied statistical methods in empirical educational research. A particular focus is on improving data analysis methods and techniques.

The IQB conducts its research activities in accordance with the principles of good scientific practice. The Ombuds Committee at the IQB serves as the first point of contact for this matter.

Research Data Centre

The Research Data Centre (FDZ) at the IQB provides researchers and students with free access to data from large-scale educational assessments. Furthermore, the FDZ provides data from high-quality interventional, experimental, and evaluation studies from early childhood education to vocational education.
