The IQB in Easy Read

Welcome to the IQB website.

IQB stands for:
Institute for Educational Quality Improvement.
This is a long and difficult name.
Here is what it means:

  • Schools want to be good.
  • They want to get better.
  • They want to learn from others.

What the IQB does  🔗

The IQB is an institute.
Institute means:
A place where people do research and learn.
Many people work at the IQB.
They help all the states in Germany.
They want to make schools better.
The IQB helps schools across all German states.

The IQB works with educational standards.
Educational standards are rules for school.
The rules say:This is what students need to learn.
Educational standards are also goals.

The IQB has 6 tasks:

  1. The IQB writes new educational standards.
    The IQB also makes the old educational standards better.
  2. The IQB often does research studies.
    This means:
    It tests the same things again and again.
    It checks:
    Do schools in Germany meet their goals?
  3. The IQB gives tests to the German states.
    And materials for learning.
    Students take the tests.
    The teachers get important information from the tests.
    They learn:
    What have the students learned already?
    Have the students learned what they should learn?
    The teachers also learn:
    Where do the students need to get better?
  4. The IQB works together with the German states.
    Together, they make tasks for the Abitur exams.
    Abitur exams are the final exams of school before university.
  5. The IQB does research.
    The IQB does research about education.
    This means
    It finds out how people can learn well.
  6. The IQB has a research data centre.
    The research data centre collects data.
    The data is from research studies on education.
    This means
    Studies on education.
    Other researchers can use this data.
    They can use the data for new research.
