To assess whether the educational standards are being met in the IQB Trends in Student Achievement and the Nationwide Achievement Tests (VERA), subject-specific and empirically validated test items are required. These test items are developed by teams in which experienced teachers trained in test item development work closely with recognized experts in subject-specific didactics in the respective subjects and experts in empirical educational research. Experts in subject didactics also cooperate in developing the Joint Pools of Abitur Exam Tasks of the Federal States. In the area of research, the IQB collaborates with leading researchers throughout Germany on research projects and joint publications.
