Project description

The collaborative research project CoSMed aimed to model and measure vocational competencies of medical employees as well as to come up with an explanatory model of the influence of individual and institutional factors. Special significance was put on the measurement of scholastic key competencies as important determinates of vocational achievement. In the sub-project "Modellierung, Messung und adaptive Testung beruflicher Fachkompetenzen bei Medizinischen Fachangestellten" (“modelling, measuring and adaptive testing of vocational achievement of medical employees”) a domain model and a competence model were fully differentiated and a technology-based assessment for measuring occupational competencies was developed. In a first step, the vocational requirements of medical employees and critical incidents were specified. At the same time the development of a web-based simulation was realized aiming to display working and business procedures of medical employees as authentically as possible. Based on cognitive-psychology theories items were classified beforehand to distinguish levels of competence. The evaluation of the data from the primary collection was conducted based on probabilistic testing models and further methods aiming to detect relationships between vocational competence and individual characteristics as well as contextual factors.
